Non-degree Seeking Students

» Non-degree Seeking Students

Students not seeking a degree, certificate, or credential who want to take classes at Chapman can do so via the Permit to Register process. Classes may be taken for credit or audited. Students will not receive credit for classes that are audited.

Through the Permit to Register process, you must pay the part-time tuition for the credits you will be earning or the audit rate for the class. You can find the current tuition and fees here. Note that financial aid is not available for Permit to Register students.

How to register

Complete the Permit to Register form and email it to the Office of the University Registrar at regforms@chapman.edu.

  • Registration for a non-degree seeking Permit to Register status begins two weeks prior to the term attended.
  • On the Permit to Register form, non-degree seeking students must obtain approval to enroll in classes indicated by the signature of the instructor or program department chair.
  • Note that all requirements for regular admission to a program must be fulfilled for these courses to be accepted.

To take an undergraduate-level class, you must:

  • Show proof of a high school diploma or completion of GED.
  • Take no more than 9 credits per semester, and no more than 27 credits without being officially admitted at Chapman University.

High School students interested in taking summer classes must also obtain approval from the Office of Admission in addition to submitting the Permit to Register form.
