Applying for Financial Aid

» Applying for Financial Aid

If you’re looking to use financial aid to help pay for college, you will need to submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

The FAFSA is a free, online form that will help you determine if you are eligible for student aid. This includes federal aid (grants, work study and low-interest loans) and potentially school and state aid. Submitting the FAFSA is essential if you want to be considered for federal, state and most forms of Chapman financial aid.

Note that only U.S. citizens and eligible non-citizens (including permanent residents) are eligible to submit a FAFSA.

Update on the FAFSA Form for 2024-25

The FAFSA is going through its first redesign in over 40 years, which has led to a number of changes for those submitting it for 2024-25:

  • FAFSA release date: Due to the redesign, the FAFSA—which generally opens on October 1—opened in late December and is paused occasionally for maintenance..
  • When schools receive your FAFSA: Due to the delayed FAFSA opening, FAFSA submissions will not be provided to colleges until mid-March.
  • For an overview of changes to the form itself, view the video below provided by Federal Student Aid:
