Accessing SharePoint

SharePoint is a browser-based app that you connect to through your web browser, like so:

If you're using Windows 10, your computer already has the SharePoint app installed. If you don't have Windows 10 or Office 2016, install the Windows version of the new OneDrive sync app.
You can access SharePoint by going to Microsoft Login page (sign in with Chapman SSO). For more detailed instructions, please review the Sign into SharePoint section below.

If you don’t currently have an account signed in to SharePoint, use these instructions to start. More information can be found on the Microsoft Support page.

Go to the Microsoft Login Page, and sign in to your work or school account.
In the upper left corner of the window, select the app launcher and select SharePoint.
- Tip: If you don't see the SharePoint app under All apps, use the Search box near the top of the window to search for SharePoint.

Use a team site when you want to collaborate with other members of your team or with others on a specific project. Visit the Microsoft support page for more information.

At the top of the SharePoint page, select + Create site and choose the Team site option.
Select a team site template that comes pre-populated with content to serve a specific scenario. Or, to create a general team site, select the Standard team template.
Give your new team site a name. As you type, you will see whether or not the name you've chosen is available. Click Next to continue.
In the Privacy settings section, choose either Public - anyone in the organization can access this site or Private - only members can access this site to control who has access to your site. Select a language for your site and select Create site.
In the Add members box, add the name or email address for everyone you want to be a member of your site and then click Finish.

If you're a Microsoft SharePoint site owner, you can give other people access to the site by adding them as owners, members, or visitors. Additional information can be found on the Share a Site support page.

Select Settings and then Site Permissions.
Select Add members then Share site only.
Enter the name(s) of all users you want to grant access to site content and select their level of control (Read, Edit, Full Control).
Enter an optional message to send with the email notification that will be sent when the site is shared, or clear the Send email checkbox if you don't want to send an email.
Select Add.

The files you store on a SharePoint site are usually available to everyone with permissions to the site, but you may want to share specific files or folders with people who don't otherwise have access to the site. For more information, visit the Share Files support page.

On your SharePoint site, go to the library where you want to share files.
Pick the file or folder you want to share by selecting its circle icon.
Select Share at the top of the page.
Select Anyone with the link can edit to open the link settings.
Select an option for who you want to give access to with the link:
- Anyone gives access to anyone who receives this link, whether they receive it directly from you or forwarded from someone else. This may include people outside of your organization.
- People in <Your Organization> with the link gives anyone in your organization who has the link access to the file, whether they receive it directly from you or forwarded from someone else.
- People with existing access can be used by people who already have access to the document or folder. It doesn't change any permissions and it doesn't share the link. Use this if you just want to send a link to somebody who already has access.
- Specific people gives access only to the people you specify, although other people may already have access. This may include people outside of your organization. If people forward the sharing invitation, only people who already have access to the item will be able to use the link.
Under More settings, you can set any of the following options:
- Can edit lets people who are signed in with a Microsoft Account edit the files or folders they have access to. If you're sharing a folder, people with Edit permissions can copy, move, edit, rename, share, and delete anything in the folder they have access to. Unchecking this box means that people can view, copy, or download your items without signing in.
Once you have set all your link settings and permissions, select Apply.
In the Name, group or email field, start typing the email addresses or contact names of people you want to share with. When you begin to enter info in the box, you can also choose a contact from the list that appears.
If applicable, include a message below the Name, group or email field and select Send.
