» Waste Management

Chapman is working to help reduce waste production and divert any waste to the proper place. Waste in Southern California is a hot topic because of its close proximity to waterways and the ocean. Therefore, Chapman has grown their commitments to reduce their waste by diverting waste with more options for recycling and composting.

Chapman's Food Digester

The Power Knot food digester is a recent addition to Chapman University's Randall Dining Commons. Leftover food waste is transferred into the digester and broken down into grey water, diverting countless amounts of food waste from the landfill. Chapman's Waste Management Partners

Chapman's main campus is located in Orange, but our operations span to Anaheim, where Chapman Grand is located, and Irvine, where our Rinker campus is located. As a result, Chapman's waste is collected by four separate waste services providers: CR&R, Republic, Ware, and Waste Management. Learn about which waste management partner services your area and how to properly sort your waste into landfill, recycling, and compost.

Test your waste sorting skills! Play our Minute to Bin It Game and sort waste items into trash, recycling, and compost.

Instructions: Waste items will appear above the trash, compost, and recycling bins. If a waste item is displayed above the bin that it would be correctly sorted into, click on the waste item to earn points towards your total score. If a waste item is displayed above a bin that it should not be placed in, do not click on the item. Points will be deducted from your total score if a waste item is clicked on when displayed over a bin it should not be sorted into.
