Financial Aid Steps

» Financial Aid Steps

Even if you are already admitted, you may have some final steps to complete in order to secure your financial aid for your first year at Chapman. These steps include:

Apply for Financial Aid

Accept your Financial Aid Offer

  • Make sure to accept/decline your Federal Direct Loans and/or Work-Study through your financial aid offer and complete appropriate To-Do List items on your Student Center.
  • You will be offered financial aid based on the housing status you indicated on the FAFSA. Make sure to notify our office via the Request for Revision Form if you need to update your housing status with the Office of Financial Aid.
  • If you were offered Federal Work-Study, the amount on your Financial Aid Offer is what you are eligible to earn during the academic year. To use work-study, you will need to get an on-campus work-study position. You will earn your work-study money through paychecks received once every two weeks for hours worked.

Apply Financial Aid to your Bill

  • Accepted financial aid will show on your online eBill (student account monthly statement) as “Pending Financial Aid” and will be deducted from your payments. Please check this carefully to make sure it reflects only the financial aid for which you will apply.
  • If you applied for your financial aid on time, scholarships and loans should post to your student account during the first month of each semester.
  • If you did not apply for all of your financial aid on time, pending scholarships and loans will expire mid-semester and the unpaid amount will become the responsibility of the student.

Maintain your Financial Aid

  • Your financial aid offer is based on full-time enrollment (12 or more credits). If you are not going to be enrolled full-time, or you drop a class to fall below 12 credits during the semester, you will need to notify our office so we can re-evaluate your financial aid eligibility. Complete section B on the Request for Revision Form and email it to finaid@chapman.edu
  • Most institutional awards have minimum GPA requirements in order to renew them. You will find this, and all other requirements, on your award letter. If you have any questions about the requirements for your award, please contact finaid@chapman.edu
