  1. Critical Thinking: Demonstrate the skills of critically interpreting, assessing, and applying evidence with regard to the analysis of political structures, institutions, and governing processes in the U.S. and other countries.

  2. Research Skills and Quantitative Reasoning: Employ research skills including the ability to understand theoretical issues, conceptualize a research question, formulate clear hypotheses, apply relevant methods and techniques to gather and analyze data, draw logically coherent conclusions, and write carefully articulated research papers regarding the study of politics.

  3. Information Literacy: Demonstrate the habit of accessing sources of political knowledge and designing effective bibliographic search strategies in order to engage in exploratory, inquiry-based, research processes.

  4. Oral Communication: Be able to construct effective messages and apply appropriate communication strategies to address diverse audiences, and, where appropriate, use multi-media platforms to present research.

  5. Written Communication: Be able to write a coherent essay which incorporates scholarly sources while also demonstrating the ability to draw social scientific and/or theoretical conclusions and communicate them effectively.
