When Dodge students aren’t working hard in the labs editing a project, or putting together a group presentation, they like to have fun too. Different student-run organizations on campus host exciting events throughout the year that offer a nice break to school work, as well as give students opportunities to interact with professionals in their field.
The year starts out with the AD Club’s Annual Witches and Warlocks Halloween Party. They fully utilize the sound stages to create a spooky setting filled with music, food and free stuff. The costume party contest is always highly competitive (film majors know how to rock a great costume!) and it always promises to be a good time.A film school wouldn’t be complete without a killer Oscar Party, and the Public Relations Society of America makes sure to do just that. Students pick out their best outfits and dress up for this annual party. Party-goers get to enjoy the show in our 500 seat movie theater and see the stars and guest celebrity presenters up close. There are lots of chances to win fun door prizes, as well as vote on who you think will win!
We end the year with our own version of the Oscars, called the Cecil Awards (named after acclaimed director, Cecil B. Demille). The awards show and after-party are planned by a group of students as part of a class, and they definitely make you feel like you are actually there! The show includes songs, dancing, special guests, clips of the nominees, and winner’s speeches. Held the night before graduation, parents get to enjoy the show too, and see what their kids have been working hard on all year. After the show, the sound stages are transformed into an awesome after party. There is music, dancing, and time just to hang out with friends. It is a highlight for the seniors every year, and gives students the experience of planning a Hollywood level event.
Whether you want to dress up in a costume, or go to the Oscars, these special events serve as a great break during the school year.
