Meet your academic advisor

Your academic advisor is either Joe Barrett or Eddie Hernandez.

Which Academic Advisor should I meet with?

• Meet with Joe if your major is:
  • Broadcast Journalism and Documentary
  • Creative Producing
  • Film and Television Production
    
    

• Meet with Eddie if your major is:
  • Animation and Visual Effects
  • Film and Media Studies
  • Public Relations, Advertising and Entertainment Marketing
  • Writing for Film and Television
    

What can my academic advisor help with?

• Planning your class schedule.
• Understanding General Education credits and requirements.
• Learning about the facilities available to you as a Dodge student.
• Reviewing your Program Evaluation to stay on track for graduation.
• Understanding Chapman’s academic policies.
• Understanding transfer credit policies for students planning on taking coursework at another institution.
• Planning a semester abroad if you are interested and have room in your schedule.
• Connecting you with your Program Coordinator for major-specific questions.
• Anything else related to general academics or student life as a Chapman undergrad.

Program Coordinators

You also have access to program coordinators, advisors specific to your major. Program coordinators are Dodge College faculty. If you are a current Dodge student, you may already know some of them.

What can my program coordinator help with?

As you begin to take upper-division classes, your Program Coordinator can help you with:

• Understanding major requirements and the classes you should be taking.
• Choosing an emphasis within your major.
• Finding extracurriculars related to your major, such as student clubs or off-campus opportunities.
• Networking in your field and getting involved with the industry.
• Developing a successful thesis.

All Dodge advisors can work with your student to help create the best possible academic experience based on their interests and goals.

We hope you will also support your student’s success by helping ensure they graduate on time and get the most out of their college experience. However, please keep in mind:

• It is important that students learn and feel comfortable to self-advocate. If they have questions or concerns, please encourage them to reach out themselves for assistance.
• Additionally, when students enter college, their academic information is protected under The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). This prevents staff and faculty from discussing anything specific about students with parents or others unless they are present and give us explicit permission to do so.
