»Eligibility for Study Abroad

Chapman University students who meet and maintain the following minimum requirements are eligible to participate in semester and academic year abroad programs:

  • Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0*
  • Class Standing: sophomore, junior or senior level (while abroad)
  • Junior or Senior level is usually required for internship-focused programs
  • Students who are placed on academic probation prior to their semester abroad will be ineligible to participate
  • Students who do not receive disciplinary clearance from the Dean of Students will be ineligible to participate**

Keep in mind that factors other than academics, such as essays, are also taken into consideration when assessing a student's potential for study abroad. Some programs may have additional requirements.

+-Pending Acceptance Students

There are certain situations in which your application will remain pending after the decision date:

  • *Your cumulative GPA falls below the 3.0 requirement. In this case, we will wait until your grades are posted for the current semester to see if your GPA rose to the 3.0 mark.
  • *You are applying as a first semester freshman or transfer student so there is no cumulative GPA on record for you. We will wait to accept you until your grades post for the semester.
  • **You have not received a disciplinary clearance from the Dean of Students. You will need to meet with the Dean of Students in order to clear this hold. Once we hear from the Dean that you have clearance from their office, we will change your status to Accepted.
