Applications are due two semesters prior to going abroad*: December for the following fall/academic year term and May for the following spring term. Before applying, applicants must attend a mandatory Study Abroad: First Steps information session. In the session, students will receive an overview of the study abroad and application process, as well as how to select a program. Once your application is reviewed by the Center for Global Education, you are given preliminary acceptance into the study abroad program of your selection. Upon acceptance by Chapman, students then complete program provider/host institution specific applications in the following semester.
+-Applying for an Academic Year
You can apply for an academic year abroad in one location or experience two different programs in one year. The application process is the same as it is for a semester program. You will need to complete two sets of application materials if you choose two different locations for the academic year and you will pay the $500 study abroad fee once. If you select one location for the entire academic year, you will only need to complete one application.
Certain programs accept applications once for the entire academic year. These include exchange programs in: Japan, Botswana, and Ghana.
For example, if you wish to apply to most universities in Japan for either the fall 2014 or the spring 2015 semester, you would need to complete all application materials during the fall 2013 semester—almost 1.5 years in advance for spring 2015.
