»Summer Film Academy

Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts offers a two-week comprehensive, collaborative and creative high school film program during the summer.

+-About

For two weeks students are immersed in the world of film through class discussions, film screenings, guest speakers, fieldtrips, and filmmaking in small groups. They live, breathe and eat filmmaking around the clock while being taught by Chapman faculty who are industry professionals and mentored by current Dodge College grad students and alumni. All of this will be shared with their peers as they work in groups to complete projects to create short digital, narrative projects which are showcased to parents and relatives on the final night of the program in our 500-seat Folino Theater.

The curriculum serves as an introduction to basic narrative and production techniques in film, giving each student exposure to basic concepts and practice in scripting, cinematography, lighting, and video and sound editing.

Taking advantage of our close proximity to Hollywood, students also meet and learn from special industry guests throughout the duration of the program who share their life stories, lessons learned, and behind-the-scenes perspectives. Also included in the program are visits to nearby entertainment landmarks such as historic Hollywood tours, and behind-the-scenes tours of film studios, production companies and equipment houses.
