Biography

Dr. Tamara Alexander is co-Director of the Mediation Clinic at Chapman University's Fowler School of Law, where she directly supervises the Restorative Justice arm of the clinic. Dr. Alexander teaches conflict resolution and mediation techniques to Chapman law students, as well as to Chapman undergraduate and graduate interns, who then engage with youth in both pre-court and post-adjudication programming.

Dr. Alexander earned her M.A. in Negotiation, Conflict Resolution, and Peacebuilding from California State University, Dominguez Hills, where she remained as a GTA and Lecturer for seven (7) years. She also earned her M.A. in Political Science from California State University, Fullerton, and her Ph.D. from Union Institute & University in Public Policy and Social Change. Dr. Alexander has engaged her community as a Senior Court Mediator for OC Human Relations Commission since 2007 and for Chapman University since 2018.

Dr. Alexander has served in several projects, including the Whitaker Peace and Development Initiative wherein she collaborated in a team effort to initiate conflict resolution programs in primary schools across LA. Additionally, she assisted the prior Chapman University Mediation Clinic Director in training law students in the practicum of negotiation and conflict resolution in court settings. During this same time, Dr. Alexander worked in partnership with Prof. Marcel Kitissou of Union Institute & University to develop a Conflict Resolution Certificate program outlining a cost/revenue potential to the University and while also considering ROI for those who pursue peacebuilding in society.
