Biography

Kim Thigpen Tyler joins the Chapman Fowler School of Law as a Visiting Professor of the Practice of Entertainment Law, where she will teach Entertainment Industry Contracts and, with Professor Ryan, oversee the Entertainment Law Clinic.

Professor Tyler has been practicing law for over twenty-five years, most of that in the field of entertainment law. She grew up in North Carolina and attended the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, where she received her B.S. in Foreign Service, majoring in Humanities and International Affairs, with a minor in Latin American Studies. After graduating from Georgetown Law School, Professor Tyler began her practice as an associate at the international law firm Bryan Cave LLP (now Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner), in both the corporate litigation and labor and employment groups. In 2000, she formed Pfeiffer Thigpen LLP, a boutique entertainment litigation firm, where she specialized in arbitration of international film disputes and appeals, and litigated a variety of business and entertainment matters. Her practice for the last decade has focused primarily on film and television transactions. She acts as counsel for production companies on all aspects of domestic and international film and tv deals, both features and documentaries.

Before coming to Chapman, she served as an adjunct professor at Loyola Law School for eleven years, teaching Entertainment Law Advocacy, Negotiations, Appellate Advocacy, Legal Drafting, and the Summer Moot Court Writing Salon.
