Biography

Jay Adams is a 15+ veteran of the film and television industry, having started his career as a music video producer, editor, and director working with such bands and companies as Rancid and Hellcat Records as well as The Dandy Warhols and Beat the World Records. Jay has since gone on to develop and write feature and TV scripts at Hartbeat Productions, Davis Entertainment, Sony Pictures, and Fox 21. Jay has also worked as a local news writer for NBC in San Diego. In 2018 and 2019, Jay wrote two short-form horror series that were both produced for Jason Blum and Eli Roth's digital platform Crypt TV.

Most recently, Jay has been developing a feature action-comedy script with former Legendary executive Vasco Xu’s Los Angeles and Beijing-based international production company, Conqueror Entertainment. Additionally, Jay’s personal and award-winning pilot script, "Downward Departure", based on Jay’s experiences, sold to Participant Television with him attached as Co-Executive Producer. Jay’s pilot, "Midnight City", has also been receiving a lot of solid attention for its authentic and well-researched depiction of the LGBTQ community in San Francisco during the 60s as well as for its crafting of exciting and intriguing characters. Midnight City won the drama genre award in the 2022 Creative Screenwriting Competition. Jay has also recently worked for Patricia Arquette editing a script for a feature film she is directing.

Jay earned his BFA in film and television production at The Academy of Art University in San Francisco and went on to receive his MFA in screenwriting from Chapman University. After graduating from Chapman, Jay was a personal assistant to showrunner Brent Forrester (Space Force, The Office, Love). Outside of writing, Jay also mentors and volunteers with a handful of prisons, juvenile halls, and rehabilitation programs.
