Biography
Dr. Schwartzman is the Chair of the Pharmacy Practice Department at Chapman University School of Pharmacy. She completed both her PharmD and Postgraduate Year 1 (PGY1) Community Pharmacy Residency at the University of Southern California.
Prior to joining Chapman University, Dr. Schwartzman started in Academia in 2008 at Western University of Health Sciences, College of Pharmacy (WesternU) as an Assistant Professor and was subsequently promoted to Professor. While at WesternU, she served as the Director of Residency and Fellowship Training for 10 years, overseeing program accreditations and the Research/Teaching Certificate Program. She was the Director of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency with a focus in ambulatory care for 10 years. Dr. Schwartzman has been precepting residents since 2008 and has also served as a guest accreditor for the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).
Dr. Schwartzman practices at a Federally Qualified Health Center in an ambulatory care setting, where she works with an interprofessional team to manage chronic diseases in patients, with a focus in diabetes. She is a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist, a Board-Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist, and an Advanced Practice Pharmacist.
Dr. Schwartzman was the recipient of the ASHP Foundation 2017 Residency Preceptor of the Year Award, the 2015 National Rho Chi Faculty Advisor Award, the WesternU College of Pharmacy Faculty Service Award in 2016 and 2020, and the WesternU College of Pharmacy Preceptor Award. Dr. Schwartzman was given the honor of Fellow of ASHP in 2023.
Dr. Schwartzman served as President-Elect of the National Rho Chi Society form 2018-2020, President from 2020-2022, and as the Immediate Past President from 2022-2024. She is a faculty mentor through the AACP Pharmacy Practice Section Mentorship Program and completed the AACP Academic Leadership Fellows Program. She continues to be an active member in a variety of national and institutional committees.
Dr. Schwartzman has a research and teaching focus in communication skills; she also specializes in preceptor development. Dr. Schwartzman has several publications focused on OSCEs with a focus on a standardized communication skills rubric. She has a book chapter focused on preceptor development and has served as a reviewer for the Self-Care Handbook along with other publications.
