Biography

Instructor Vega received his master’s degree in counseling from California State University Long Beach and holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Applied Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Throughout his work in K-12, alternative, and higher education, instructor Vega developed an unrelenting passion for helping students of varying backgrounds succeed academically and socio-emotionally. As a practicing school counselor in Southern Orange County, his work is centered around implementing the ASCA National Model, data-informed interventions, social justice, and culturally responsive practices in schools.

Instructor Vega currently serves as Senior Lecturer in the M.A. in school counseling program at Chapman. Courses taught include Intro to Ethical Practices in School Counseling, Consultation & Collaboration, Advocacy for Social Justice, Equity, and Inclusion in Counseling and Educational Systems, Best Practices in School Counseling, Human Development, School Counseling Fieldwork, and School Counseling Practicum.

His professional recognitions include being named the Orange County Counselor of the Year by the Orange County Department of Education and helping earn the Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP) national designation for the counseling program at his school.
