Biography

 

Anita M. Cal is a versatile award-winning storyteller who’s had the opportunity to write, produce, and line produce with a diverse range of talent in the industry, from Taraji P. Henson to the legendary Rutger Hauer (Batman, Blade Runner) and Emmy winning re-recording sound mixer Michael Archacki. As a writer, she’s penned comedy for TBS’s Tyler Perry's "House of Payne" and "Meet The Browns," as well as Colours TV’s “The Chin Chinns.” Anita landed her first development deal with Showtime, Inc. for a feature family drama, “Kinfolks” while still in graduate school. Her screenplay, Fathers of God, a gripping thriller that exposes the grim secrets of Catholic priests, won a Garry Marshall Best Screenplay Award, Nicholl’s Fellowship semi-finalist, and Chesterfield Writer’s Film Project quarter-finalist recognition. Recently, Anita wrote and produced “Beyond the Badge,” a drama pilot that earned admission into the Seriesfest and DTLA film festivals. Currently, she’s writing a thriller for a cable TV network. Anita’s a former Los Angeles Times cop and education reporter. Known to her college students as “Dr. C,” she teaches Producing and Line Producing. Anita earned her Doctorate in Organizational Leadership from Pepperdine University. She incorporates leadership principles into her film school lectures and has spoken on her leadership research in Belgium, Paris, and Frieburg.
