Programs to Repay Your Loans

APLE (Assumption Program of Loans for Education) - If you're planning on a career in teaching, this program can provide you with up to $11,000 in loan repayment benefits over the course of four years. In exchange for teaching in either a low-income school or a teacher subject shortage area, the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) will repay a certain portion of your student loans. Teacher Loan Forgiveness Programs - Higherly qualified teachers may apply to have up to $5,000 of federal loans forgiven, or even up to $17,500 for math, science, and special education teachers.  More information and application forms can be found here.

Taxpayer-Teacher Protection Act of 2004 - This letter contains information on changes made to the Higher Education Act to provide increased Federal Stafford LOan forgiveness for certain Elementary and Secondary School Teachers.

ARMY - The Army College Loan Repayment Program may repay up to $65,000 in federal loans. Enlist for a 4 year term and each year (for 3 years) the Army will repay $1,500 or 33.3% (whichever is greater) of a qualifying student loan (up to $65,000). Both the Army and the Army Reserve offer an alternative to spending a long time paying back student loans. These programs can help you start your career debt free.
