  • Prepare students for successful completion of the BOC certification exam.
  • Produce high quality, ethical and professional certified athletic trainers for employment in diverse allied health settings.
  • Provide direction and assistance for students gaining entrance into graduate school.
  • Build an appreciation for the contribution athletic training makes to the field of sports medicine as an allied health profession.
  • Foster the development of critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Encourage study abroad opportunities to develop an understanding of international health care practices.

Monte Smith is the founding father of Chapman University’s Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) and served with distinction as a professor, mentor, and Head Athletic Trainer from 1973 to 1992. He worked tirelessly to develop the athletic training major, while providing health care to thousands of student-athletes during his 20-year career at Chapman.

The Monte Smith Endowment Fund honors Monte’s legacy and supports Chapman’s current athletic training students, by funding instructional aides and therapeutic modality equipment, research equipment, book allotments, and travel expenses for students attending educational workshops, professional conferences, and athletic training study abroad courses.

Your help is critical in continuing the financial momentum needed to maintain Monte’s legacy. Interested in making dreams come true? Please contact Erin O'Keefe, Development Coordinator, at 714-628-2740 or by email at eokeefe@chapman.edu for more information or simply make a pledge today.
