Hey alumni – get your butt back to Chapman! We’re working on scoring free tickets to campus events to give away to alumni, from athletics to performing arts to guest speakers and much more. Our first Chapman Seats event gave 10 alumni the opportunity to come to campus for a private dinner event with Dennis Kuhl, chairman of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

We announce most of the Chapman Seats opportunities on Facebook, so make sure to like the Chapman University Alumni page. We also promote Chapman Seats events in the monthly alumni newsletter, so update your contact information to make sure you’re receiving it.

The Faculty Research and Development Council is pleased to bring you the third lecture of the spring 2014 Faculty Forum Lecture Series with Dr. Fran Dickson presenting a lecture on “Communication Patterns in the Life of the Socially and Sexually Active Later-life Adult.”

This talk will examine what we know about the socially and sexually active single later-life adults and the implications that this new social pattern has on family communication. Traditional views of older adults in life-span research are becoming irrelevant and need to be modified to include the social trends of single later-life adults seeking out intimacy and romance.  Specifically, this talk will discuss Dr. Dickson's program of research that examines communication and dating patterns among later-life adults and how family members discuss and respond to conversations about their older family members social activities.

Fran C. Dickson (Ph.D., Bowling Green State University, 1982) is Professor and Chair in the Department of Communication Studies. Her teaching interests are interpersonal and personal relationships, later-life marriages, health communication, communication and aging, research methods, and communication and conflict. She has published book chapters and referred articles in the area of family communication, communication and aging, and health communication. Dr. Dickson's most recent projects include exploration of parenting challenges among families that are homeless, conflict among later-life married and remarried couples, and HIV/AIDS among later-life dating adults.
