Carlos has over a decade of experience in higher education, working in the area of institutional research. He Joined Chapman in 2014 as a senior research analyst for the Institutional Research and Decision Support Office. Carlos is closely involved with the analysis and reporting of data related to the Alumni Survey, National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), and Ruffalo Noel Levitz Student Satisfaction Inventory (SSI). He also leads the planning, logistics, and deployment of most of the in-house surveys developed by the Office. At Chapman, Carlos has also taught courses in mathematics, statistics, and advanced research methodology.
Carlos enjoys collaborating with colleagues and providing guidance in putting critical and analytical thinking skills into practice. He has a strong commitment to diversity and seeks to help others recognize the needs and unique contributions of individuals of diverse backgrounds to the collegiate community. One of his biggest passions is the study of the social and academic factors that impact student success. Carlos is also interested in the academic preparation and career exploration of students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
He received his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies with an emphasis in higher education from Iowa State University. He earned both a bachelor’s degree in Industrial and System Engineering and master’s degree in Engineering Management from Florida International University. Prior to entering institutional research, Carlos worked for several years as an industrial and systems engineer.
