Biography

Nicole Rangel is an international lawyer with over a decade of experience advising on international criminal law, international human rights law, international humanitarian law, refugee law, and representing survivors of sexual and gender-based violence.

Nicole has worked for the United Nations as a human rights officer and a legal officer on issues related to conflict and post-conflict atrocities in the former Yugoslavia, Rwanda, Yemen, and Lebanon. She has investigated, analyzed, and litigated war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, terrorism, and other violations of international law on all sides of the aisle. As a Clinical Supervising Attorney at the Stanford Law School International Human Rights Clinic, she facilitated human rights advocacy projects in Haiti, Canada, Colombia, El Salvador, Pakistan, and many others. In addition to her international work, Nicole has represented asylum applicants in proceedings before US immigration authorities and in the United Nations Refugee Status Determination process. Nicole continues to volunteer on the border of the US and Mexico and to advocate for reproductive justice and gender equality. She is currently consulting on international humanitarian law issues in Ukraine. She remains passionately committed to advocating for those traditionally marginalized by existing legal regimes.

Nicole earned her Juris Doctor graduating magna cum laude from McGeorge School of Law with a certification in Public International Law and is a member of the California State Bar. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Global Peace and Security from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
