Biography

Bruce McClurg is a certified Singing Voice Specialist (SVS) through the Center for the Care of the Professional Voice, Chicago, IL. Additionally, he is a Certified McClosky Voice Technician (CMVT) through the McClosky Institute of Voice, Boston, MA. The New York Singing Teachers’ Association awarded him the title of Distinguished Voice Professional for his completion of the Oren L. Brown Development Program in 2014. In 2020, he completed a graduate certificate in vocology from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.

He devotes a part of his private studio teaching to collaborating with singers who have developed various voice disorders. As a part of a voice team, he works to help habilitate these singers back to vocal health. Currently, he continues to educate himself on current voice and vocal acoustics research by attending seminars, including those presented by the New England Conservatory of Music, the Shenandoah Conservatory of Music, Westminster Choir College, the Academy of Voice Science, and lectures given by various well-respected pedagogues throughout the United States and England.

Bruce’s students are consistent winners of voice competitions and are accepted into well respected graduate programs such as the Peabody Conservatory of Music and the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.

He is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), and he is a past president for NATSLA. This organization distinguishes itself as the largest NATS chapter in the country. He is also a member of the Pan-American Vocology Association (PAVA).
