I was looking in early winter of 2016 for opportunities to get a jump start on my law career. Every opportunity I saw was only available for law school students and just when I started to think there wasn't a program that was designed for young undergraduates, I came across discoverlaw.org. I saw the list of programs and applied. Today I can say that applying to the PLUS program has changed my life.
My advice: Participate, ask questions, get to know the 19 other individuals along side of you and believe you were selected for a reason! I doubted myself so much before coming to Chapman's Plus Program and why they had selected me. It is your job to participate, do the rigorous, but rewarding homework and be open to new possibilities. Make the most of every field trip, lesson, discussion with the professors and faculty at Chapman. The first day you will be scared, but by the last day you will have hopefully found the spark to light the flame to the rest of your undergraduate career. I HIGHLY recommend the Fowler School of Law PLUS program and cannot thank the admission staff at Fowler School of Law for picking the 20 of us to learn and grow before law school.

After participating in the PLUS Program, I have perfected my skills of professionalism in learning how to give an elevator speech and learning the others ways of networking. Through the program’s networking event with various Bar Associations, guest speakers, and the law school fair, I was able to come out of my shell and not be afraid to approach an individual that I want to connect with and learn from.
The PLUS Program has also been an enormous help with teaching me everything I need to know about the law school application process. Before attending Chapman’s program, I only knew about taking the LSAT but didn’t think about recommendations, personal statements or even writing a law school resume. The most helpful tool that I have been using from the program that is currently helping me is the law school application timeline, as I will be applying for law school in Fall 2019.

Having no family or friends in the legal field, makes it nearly impossible to gain insight by yourself. I knew Chapman PLUS was going to be an opportunity to gain all I needed to know about law school, and my future career.
We had numerous law professors teach us over the summer, assigned to volunteer at a various public interest clinic over the summer, and got to see different niches in the legal field throughout the program. Chapman taught me what to expect and how to prepare for a career in law. I plan to transfer this coming fall, and finish my degree in International Relations, and after achieve my JD/MBA here in California and work in corporate law.

I applied to several PLUS programs. I chose Chapman's PLUS Program because I knew that I could learn a great deal from attending a program so far from my home state (NC). Being that I had never traveled to the west coast before, coming to Chapman allowed me to learn about the law in a new setting and expand my horizons.
After I graduate, I plan to work in a North Carolina high school as a College Adviser, helping students in underserved communities navigate the college application process. Then, I plan to attend law school and eventually work as a civil rights attorney.
