Why Chapman?

Personalized Education

Chapman has earned a unique reputation for its collegial and collaborative students, accessible faculty, and supportive staff. The law school boasts an average 10 to 1 student-to-faculty ratio and offers smaller class sizes and greater opportunities to work closely with faculty and administrators.

Collaborative Environment

Our diverse student body combined with our small classes make it possible for you to connect across borders and backgrounds, opening your experience to different cultures and ways of viewing the world. Not only do we strive to connect academic areas of inquiry through interdisciplinary study, we also work to connect students to faculty and the University to the community, so that your education is personal, relevant and engaged in the larger world.

Fantastic Location

The law school is on the beautiful Chapman University campus in the heart of Orange County, California. Just steps away from the restaurants and shops of Orange’s Historic Old Towne Plaza, Chapman’s stately, palm-treed campus is a centerpiece of this comfortable mid-sized city. Ideally situated within an hour’s drive of Los Angeles, our location provides easy access to LA and Hollywood internships, beautiful beaches, Disneyland, mountains, desert, and Orange County’s federal and state court system.

+ - Qualifications for Admission to the Bar

In addition to a bar examination, there are character, fitness, and other qualifications for admission to the bar in every U.S. jurisdiction. Applicants are encouraged to determine the requirements for any jurisdiction in which they intend to seek admission by contacting the jurisdiction. Addresses for all relevant agencies are available through the National Conference of Bar Examiners.

+ - Academics

Chapman University Fowler School of Law’s academic programs provide the best of both worlds: foundational accredited legal instruction coupled with a varied selection of specific concentrations, joint degrees, and LL.M's.  Our highly experienced professors provide supportive and personalized education in classes with consistently small faculty/student ratios. Some highlights of the expanding program include:

  • Our newest emphasis program in Business Law enhances student’s legal knowledge with the fundamental language of business, including principles of international business, mergers and acquisitions, business start-ups, bankruptcy, and taxation.
  • Our emphasis program in Entertainment Law, the first of its kind in the nation, is designed to tap into the synergy arising from the powerhouse Dodge College of Film and Media Arts at Chapman University.
  • Additional emphasis offerings include Advocacy and Dispute Resolution, Environmental, Land Use & Real Estate (ENLURE), International Law and Tax Law.
  • A joint JD/MBA is offered in conjunction with Chapman's acclaimed George L. Argyros School of Business and Economics.
  • A new JD/MFA in Film & Television Producing provides additional opportunities for hands-on learning in conjunction with Chapman's Dodge College of Film and Media Arts.

Chapman also provides students with a number of academic resources that provide real-world legal experience to help maximize their law school education. These resources include:
