Information on Passports

A passport is your official document identifying you as a U.S. citizen. You must have a passport for any international travel, and the passport expiration date must be six months after the end date of your study abroad program. For example, if you are going abroad from January 2025 to May 2025, your passport will need to be valid through November 2025.

The CGE encourages you to obtain a valid passport before you are accepted to your program because your host country may require you to obtain a student visa, and visa applications require a valid passport.

Visit travel.state.gov to determine if you are eligible to apply for a passport by mail or if you need to go in-person to a passport facility. Follow the steps from the U.S. Department of State to apply for or renew your passport.

If you need a notary service for your passport, Chapman offers a free notary service for students. Request an appointment with Student Business Services. Bring a valid driver license or acceptable form of ID card.
