  • The Attallah College of Educational Studies and the Thompson Policy Institute on Disability are partners in the development of education, training, and technical support/assistance for Tomorrow’s Leadership Collaborative (TLC). The education, training, and technical support will focus on inclusive education at TLC and in the surrounding schools in Orange County. Inclusion Technical Assistance Collaborative (I-TAC) also includes research, which will be conducted by the Thompson Policy Institute.

  • The Thompson Policy Institute is excited to announce their partnership with Tomorrow’s Leadership Collaborative (TLC), the first public fully included school in Orange County, California. TLC Public Charter School is a ​tuition-free public charter school opening in the 2018-2019 school year in the city of Orange, California. TLC will start by serving Grades TK – 4 with diverse and inclusive classrooms that are rich, challenging, and accessible to ALL students.

    About TLC:

    • Tuition-free public charter school open to all students in OC. Highly, qualified certificated teachers in every classroom.
    • Classroom materials and lessons aligned with California state standards and frameworks.
    • Innovative, project-based, constructivist curriculum based designed for joyful learning and the 21stcentury skills: curiosity, creativity, communication, collaboration.
    • Diverse and inclusive classrooms for a learning community that promotes friendship, care, and positive social growth.
    • Smaller class sizes for optimal learning (Grades TK-2: 20-24 students, Grades 3-4: 24-28 students).
    • Research-based best practices in teaching and learning so every child can reach his/her best potential.

    The California Council on Teacher Education (CCTE) approved the addition of a new special interest group (SIG) on Inclusive Education. California is experiencing a resurgent interest to authentically include students with disabilities along side their non-disabled peers. The primary purpose the new Inclusion SIG is to learn about the statewide efforts, share local and regional activities, and overall strengthen the movement toward more inclusive schooling. Coordinating our efforts through the new Inclusion SIG will both increase awareness and create statewide synergy.

    TPI, CEEDAR, CSU System and CCTE will offer Mini-grants to universities working with schools to improve inclusion curriculum.

  • The Southern California Inclusion Think Tank brings together various stakeholders, including individuals with disabilities, parents, teachers, administrators, faculty, higher education students, self-advocates, advocates, etc., to discuss inclusive education in Southern California school districts.

    The group highlights areas of best practice, challenges, and develops next steps as a team to increase inclusion for all students, specifically those with disabilities. The Southern California Inclusion Think Tank meets throughout the year and meets in Orange County and Los Angeles County.
