Deadlines and Prerequisites

Prerequisites:
It is expected that students admitted to the MS EECS program will have completed substantial preparatory coursework as an undergraduate major or minor from a regionally accredited institution in one of the following disciplines, or the equivalent: Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Informatics, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or Software Engineering.
Chapman's language of instruction is English. If you have not received a bachelor's degree (or higher) at an institute where English was the language of instruction, you must demonstrate English proficiency by submitting official scores from an English language exam. Students pursuing the Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science are held to the University's Academic Policies and Procedures. In addition, these specific degree standards apply:
- Minimum grade "C+" or above required in all coursework.
- Maintain 3.000 GPA in the degree.
- Complete the thesis or coursework option as part of Mastery Demonstration.
Students admitted to the MS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science degree program may transfer up to 6 credits completed toward MS degree coursework upon approval by the program director or associate dean of the college. (See Academic Policies and Procedures for transfer policies.)

Mastery Demonstration (6 units)
Option 1
Students complete two 3-credit sections of ENGR698 – Thesis.
Option 2
Students complete two additional 3-credit courses from the Technical Core.
Students in the thesis option must complete 30 credits to graduate, including 24 credits of coursework and two 3-credit sections of ENGR698. Students must be accepted by a Fowler School of Engineering full-time faculty member as a research advisee to enroll in the thesis option. The thesis advisor will supervise the student’s work, set deadlines, and guide the student’s progress. If additional time is required to complete the thesis beyond the 6 credits of ENGR698, students must register for one credit of ENGR697 for each semester the thesis remains outstanding. Integrated Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
Undergraduates can take up to 15 credits of graduate coursework during their senior year and earn an MS in electrical engineering and computer science with just one additional year of study. Students completing undergraduate degrees in computer engineering, computer science, data science, electrical engineering, or software engineering are eligible for the integrated MS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science program (EECS). The program is also available to undergraduates majoring in other STEM disciplines with a minor (or equivalent) in one of the above areas.
For the Integrated Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science program, graduate courses used to satisfy undergraduate degree requirements may also satisfy up to 15 credits of graduate coursework and may be double counted towards both bachelor's and master's degrees. By default, these credits will not apply towards the undergraduate major, only overall degree completion. Counting graduate coursework toward undergraduate major requirements may only be done with approval from the pertinent undergraduate program director and will not exceed 6 credits in total.
