First-Year Pre-Registration Advising

ยป First-Year Pre-Registration Advising

As an incoming first-year student, you must follow the steps below to prepare for your course registration for your first semester.

You can also contact your advisor with any questions.

Required: Attend a Virtual Advising Session

Virtual Advising Session registration will open in November.

Your Virtual Advising Session will give you a chance to meet your Academic Advisor. There will be plenty of time to answer your questions during the session.

It covers a variety of topics, including Chapman’s:

  • General Education program.
  • Math Assessment.
  • Language requirement and proficiency/placement testing options.
  • Recommended courses for your first year.
  • Registration process, including a step-by-step guide of how to use your Student Center to register for classes.

This Advising Session is required. A New Student Advising Hold will be placed on your account before registration opens and will not be removed until you have completed this requirement.

Required: Complete your Math Assessment

All incoming first-year students must take a Math Assessment upon entry. Please review our Math Assessment website for all of the details.

Take the Math Assessment test seriously and prepare by taking the practice test so that you aren’t placed into a lower level than is appropriate for your ability. There are no re-takes.

If you do not complete your math assessment, you will have a Math Hold added to your account and will not be able to register for classes.

Submit the Language Planning Form

At Chapman, you are required to take language classes as part of your General Education requirements

However, you may be able to waive this requirement, or place into a higher level class, depending on your fluency level.

To determine the best option for you, we encourage you to:
