As an incoming transfer student, you should follow the steps below to prepare for your course registration and first semester.
Required: Complete Academic Advising
You must complete acadamic advising to clear your registration hold. This advising will be virtual and either a group advising session or one-on-one with an advisor. Registration will open in November.
Advising covers a variety of topics, which may vary depending on your program but will include Chapman’s:
- General Education program
- Math Assessment
- Language requirement and proficiency/placement testing options
- Recommended courses
- Registration process, including a step-by-step guide of how to use your Student Center to register for classes.
A New Student Advising Hold will be placed on your account before registration opens and will not be removed until you have completed this requirement.
If needed: Complete your Math Assessment
Many incoming transfer students must take a Math Assessment upon entry. Please review our Math Assessment website for all of the details, including any exemptions to the policy that you might qualify for as a transfer student.
If needed: Submit the Language Planning Form
At Chapman, you are required to take language classes as part of your General Education requirements.
However, you may be able to waive this requirement, or place into a higher level class, depending on your fluency level.
To determine the best option for you, we encourage you to:
- Review the information on our Language Exams.
- Submit our Language Planning Form so we are aware of your plans and can best advise you on your next step.
You can discuss your Math and Language Assessment options with your academic advisor.
Registering for classes
Find your registration date and time
Incoming transfer will register for their fall classes in July. Each student is assigned a specific date/time at random during which their registration window opens.
These registration appointments are assigned in late May. Visit our website to learn how to find your specific date and time in your Student Center.
Understand the process to register/change classes
Completing the steps above should prepare you to register for or change your classes. The last step is to just understand the processes to register for or change classes.
