Welcome from Misty Levingston, Director of Black Excellence and Achievement
As Chapman’s Director of Black Excellence and Achievement, I am happy to lend you a helping hand as you delve into what Chapman has to offer.
We have a growing community of African American/Black students who have established a supportive network you can join. From student clubs and organizations to cultural events in the community, there are numerous avenues for you to be involved.

Chapman resources
Chapman is dedicated to nurturing the success and community development of African American/Black students with support systems and helpful resources, including:
Clubs and organizations
Click the links to learn more about each student organization and get contact information.
- African Students’ Alliance: A student organization that provides a sense of community, support, and cultural awareness for African students and those interested in African cultures through cultural celebrations, workshops, and social gatherings.
- Black Law Student Association: A network for students in the Fowler School of Law.
- Black Parent and Family Network: A forum that serves as a resource to parents and family members as they navigate the college experience with their Chapman students with notifications of events, workshops, and volunteer opportunities throughout the academic year.
- Black Resource Center (BRC): Serves as a home base for all-things Black at Chapman – events, resources, news, information, guides, internships, jobs, and much more. The center is also a place where you can connect with each other, ask questions, participate in discussions, or share resources you feel would help the community.
- Black Student Union: Empowers the Black community at Chapman by providing fundamental support, resources, and information while fostering connections with other communities on campus.
- Brothers Real Talk: Provides an intentional community space for students to meet bi-weekly and share their experiences as men of color.

- Chapman Black Film Society: Aims to improve and increase the knowledge, experiences, and overall opportunities for students of African descent with interests in any/all aspects of filmmaking.
- Sisters Circle: Provides an intentional community space for students to meet bi-weekly and share their experiences as women of color.

Students can also learn about and join clubs in person at the Student Involvement Fair, which takes place once every semester.
Campus resources
- Black Staff and Faculty Forum: A network of faculty and staff members at Chapman University that are here to provide support and advocacy for the Black community.
- Cross-Cultural Center: Provides students with a safe space and offers programs and services intended to affirm the value of and support students from underrepresented identities.
- Cross-Cultural Education and Resource Team (CERT): An advisory group of faculty, staff, and students devoted to a stronger, more inclusive community at Chapman. They work to empower students following potential bias incidents that affect our campus community.

- Dean of Students Office: Serves as a resource for students by assisting in matters that impact the learning of all students.
- Diversity Affairs Committee: Addresses issues of diversity and equity on campus and actively seeks the concerns of underrepresented groups to solve issues.
Graduation and alumni opportunities
- Black graduation: An annual celebration that takes place to honor the achievements of Chapman’s African American/Black students, in addition to the official university commencement ceremonies that all students participate in.
- Black Family Homecoming: An orientation event held every September where African American/Black students, alumni, faculty and staff, family, friends, and the community gather to enjoy food, music, and giveaways.
