Admission Timeline
Fall 2025 Application Cycle will open on October 1
The application process for Chapman University’s M.S Communication Sciences and Disorders is completed through the Communication Sciences and Disorders Centralized Application System (CSDCAS).
Deadline to submit your application to CSDCAS: January 15, 2025 at 8:59 PM Pacific Standard Time (11:59 pm Eastern Standard Time).
Applications will be reviewed when it has been VERIFIED by CSDCAS and all required documents have been received.
The verification process timeline increases during the months of December – February and may take up to four weeks to completely process your application.
Please turn everything in early to avoid any delays in the application reviewing process.
Admission Requirements
To be considered for admission, applicants must submit the following:
- Application to the Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders program, using the national CSDCAS form.
- Undergraduate degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders or post baccalaureate equivalent (leveling courses) is required for this program.
- Applicants must have at least four (4) Post Bac CSD courses listed on their official transcript by the application deadline (January 15).
- If these courses are still in progress at the application deadline, it will delay their application review process.
- Official transcripts from the baccalaureate degree granting institution.
- Transcripts are sent directly to CSDCAS
- Three letters of recommendation, including one from an academic source, which describe the applicant’s professional and academic abilities.
- The recommendation form is included in the CSDCAS application.
- A personal statement that will be used to assess the applicant’s writing skills, career commitment and professional goals.
- The prompt is included in the CSDCAS application.
- Applicants must complete their ASHA Prerequisite Course Content Areas prior to enrollment in the graduate program.
- The ASHA form is included in the CSDCAS application.
- Applicants must complete their Basic Skills Requirements for the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (BSR CTC) prior to enrollment in the graduate program.
- The BSR CTC form is included in the CSDCAS application.
Degree/Course Requirements
An Undergraduate degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders or the Post Baccalaureate (leveling courses) equivalent is required for this program.
Undergraduate degrees, minors or Post Bac courses must be completed at a regionally accredited college or university within the United States.
Undergraduate Degree
The following undergraduate degrees meet the requirements for the program:
- Communication Sciences and Disorders
- Speech and Hearing Sciences
- Speech Language Pathology
A degree in Linguistics or Communication does not meet the requirements to apply for this graduate program.
Post Baccalaureate (Post Bac)
If your undergraduate degree is not within the field of Communication Sciences and Disorders, Speech and Hearing Sciences, or Speech Language Pathology, you will need to complete a Post Baccalaureate program to meet the course requirements for the graduate program.
To check if your courses meet the requirements, please review the courses and the course descriptions from Chapman University's Post Bac CSD Program. These courses do not need to match exactly but should be similar.

Program Facts
- The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders is located at Rinker Health Science Campus, Irvine, CA.
- This is full-time, two-year program (Fall, Spring and Summer)
- We do not offer online courses nor part-time status.
- We only accept students once a year and that is during the fall trimester.
- Our students and faculty are very much involved with the community, scholarship, leadership and legislative advocacy.
ASHA 2020 SLP Certification Standards
The American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) 2020 SLP Certification requirements must be completed in order to receive your Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC).
These courses are not required to be accepted into the program. However, we highly recommend completing these courses before you finish the program.
ASHA Required Course Content Areas:
- Biological Science Course
- Physical Science or Chemistry Course
- Statistics Course
- Social Science and Behavioral Science Course

Applicants must complete their ASHA Prerequisite Course Content Areas prior to enrollment in the graduate program.
Admission Appeal Process
Applicants who wish to inquire about or appeal an admission decision may contact the CSD admissions specialist in writing at csdadmissions@chapman.edu.
If the applicant wishes to submit a formal written appeal, the admissions specialist must receive it within 10 days of the admissions decision. The written appeal will then be forwarded to the Program Director, who will review the applicant’s documentation, discuss it with the admission committee (if deemed necessary) and respond in writing to the applicant.
If the applicant wishes to further appeal the response, they may do so in writing to csdadmissions@chapman.edu within 10 days of CSD program director’s response to the initial appeal. At this point, a meeting will be arranged with the applicant to review their application package and review scores and to discuss the program’s decision.
If the program decides not to admit the student, the applicant may submit a written appeal to the Dean of Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences within 5 working days of notification of the program’s decision. The Dean will confer with the applicant and meet with the program director and admissions committee, if appropriate. Within 10 business days of meeting with the Dean, the applicant will receive a formal written statement indicating the decision of the college. The Dean’s decision is final.
