»A Golden Legacy: Celebrating the California’s Gold Collection and Scholarship Fund and the Huell Howser Archive

Join us in celebrating the official launch of the California’s Gold Collection and Scholarship Fund and the Huell Howser Archive at Chapman University. Visit with some of the folks featured on California’s Gold, and view artwork and memorabilia from Huell’s extraordinary life and work.

Location: Chapman University, Memorial Hall, One University Drive, Orange, CA 92866 

The event is free and open to the public.  Please plan to arrive early as seating and parking are limited.

2:00 p.m.

The celebration begins in Memorial Hall with highlights from California’s Gold, a history of why the archive came to Chapman University, and the posthumous presentation of an honorary doctorate to Huell Howser. Meet the first recipient of the California’s Gold Scholarship and hear Huell's vision for the scholarship in his own words.

2:30 – 5:00 p.m.

Open House and Celebration of the Archives 

  • Attallah Piazza: Stars from California’s Gold will be on hand to visit with fans and share stories about their experience with Huell. Also on hand: samples of some of the products or food items that were featured in California's Gold
  • Leatherby Libraries, First Floor:  Enjoy a complete recreation of Huell’s office. Peruse the California’s Gold artifacts, Huell’s books and a collection of his “found object art.”
  • Beckman Hall, First Floor:  Explore more of Huell’s collection of found object art.

4:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Head back to Memorial Hall and enjoy some episodes of California’s Gold.

Event Parking

Parking is available free of charge in the Cypress Street, Knott Studios and Argyros Forum lots and the Lastinger and Barrera parking structures. Shuttle service will be available from the Cypress Street and Knott Studios lots.
