10 Seconds to Impress

Foundation of Your Career Toolkit

If you had 10 seconds to tell an employer about yourself, what would you choose to say and how would you convey it most effectively?

Your resume is an important self-marketing piece, and you need it to stand out from dozens, even hundreds, of other resumes to grab a hiring manager’s attention — all in the time it takes for them to take a sip of coffee. No pressure, right?

Fortunately, you can craft an organized, concise and well-designed resume using these resources!

Resumes vs. CVs

The main difference between a resume and a curriculum vitae (CV) is that a CV is much more detailed and highlights your accomplishments, particularly for those in the academic world.

Typically, CVs are more common in countries outside the U.S., however, there are certain career fields that do ask for CVs as part of their application process.

Because CVs are more comprehensive with more sections than a resume, they will be several pages in length. Like a resume, you need to provide your name and contact information, education and work experience. However, a CV also details your areas of interest, grants or honors that you have been awarded, publications and scholarly or professional memberships.
