»Making a Referral to the CDC

Our Mission Statement

The Career Development Center works with all Chapman University students to assist them with identifying, developing, and implementing their career goals through self-direction and personal responsibility. Students can access services by scheduling appointments, walking in, and using online services.

+-Quick Questions

Most students can benefit from meeting with a staff member who can evaluate their needs and introduce them to relevant services. The Career Development Center has an open-door policy every weekday for brief, 15-minute drop-in periods which we call “Quick Questions.”

Quick Questions Hours take place in AF 303 as follows:

SUMMER HOURS:

  • Monday-Friday: 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

FALL/SPRING HOURS:

  • Monday: 2 p.m.-4 p.m.
  • Tuesday: 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
  • Wednesday: 2 p.m.-4p.m.
  • Thursday: 3 p.m.-5 p.m.
  • Friday: 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

Services that the CDC can provide during Quick Questions are the following:

  • Picking up career-related handouts
  • Getting internship paperwork and turning in completed paperwork
  • Clarifying policies and procedures
  • Exploring, choosing, or changing majors
  • Learning about jobs related to their majors
  • Taking career assessments such as the Strong Interest Inventory and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator
  • Preparing resumes and cover letters and getting them critiqued
  • Gaining interviewing skills through coaching, mock interviews, and feedback
  • Developing job search strategies and reviewing job and internship postings
  • Finding out about internship and job opportunities
  • Learning how to find part-time and full-time jobs
  • Identifying and applying to graduate school

+-Appointments

After students have dropped by for Quick Questions, it can be assessed whether or not they should have private appointments scheduled for them.

Appointment scheduling is centralized through the Career Development Center Department Assistant, who can be reached at (714) 997-6942 or career@chapman.edu.

Initial appointments are scheduled for 60 minutes to allow adequate time to explore the student’s needs. When making an appointment, students are asked about the nature of the appointment in order to match them with a staff member who can best assist them.
