The Inter/Multidisciplinary Cluster – a group of content-related courses – enables you to gain depth in an area of study outside of your major.
To complete the GE Inter/Multidisciplinary Cluster, either:
- Choose four classes (12 credits) from any one cluster OR
- Complete a minor or second major
A list of all of the clusters can be found on the GE Program website. At least 6 credits in the cluster must be upper division.
This is how the I/M Cluster will appear on your program evaluation:

Once you have decided on a particular cluster, you must declare it with the Registrar's Office in order for the courses to be placed in the appropriate category. If you decide to complete a minor or a second major instead of the cluster, the program evaluation will show a "W" which indicates that the requirement is waived upon completion of the minor or second major.
Transfer students who have earned 60 or more college course credits in transfer prior to matriculation are exempt from 6 of the 12 credits in the I/M cluster. These students must complete 6 credits of upper division coursework from a declared cluster. Transfer students who have earned 30-59 college course credits in transfer prior to matriculation are exempt from 3 of the 12 credits, and must complete 9 credits in a declared I/M cluster (6 credits must be upper division). Note that AP/IB credit is not considered part of the number of college course credits in transfer. Cluster topics must be declared at the Registrar's Office in order for waivers to be indicated on the program evaluation.
