»New Transfer Students

Academic Advising is not required for new transfer students, but it is highly recommended.  Advisors can review your program evaluation to determine which courses were transferred, and how they are being applied to your degree.

As a new transfer student to Chapman University, you have several options for completing academic advising. It is recommended that all students meet with both their faculty advisor and an advisor in the Academic Advising Center. For more on the academic advising process at Chapman, click here.

+-Advising Options for New Transfer Students

Online Advising:

An online tutorial is available for those students who are out of the local area, or who are comfortable receiving important information in an electronic environment.  The tutorial will cover all of the same information as a one-on-one appointment with a professional advisor.  A new fall 2013 online tutorial will be available here on June 3. Follow-up phone appointments with an advisor are available for students who have additional questions after completing the tutorial. You may call (714) 744-7959 to schedule a follow-up phone appointment.

Appointment with an Academic Advisor:

Students may schedule an individual appointment with a professional advisor.  Appointments are 1 hour in length, dedicated to reviewing the student's program evaluation.  At the end of the session (15-30 minutes), students can sit with a peer advisor who will assist the student with navigating WebAdvisor, Chapman's online course registration system.  It is in the student's best interest to review the Web Advisor tutorial before coming to his or her advising appointment. Starting on June 3, 2013, students can call the Academic Advising Center at (714) 744-7959 to schedule an advising appointment. Students must have paid their enrollment deposit and be in moved-to-student status before they can schedule an advising appointment.

Appointment with a Faculty Advisor:

Students also have the option of scheduling an appointment with a Faculty advisor in their major department to discuss the specific requirements for the major, research or internship opportunities, or career goals.  Please note that Faculty availability is limited during the summer months.  To schedule an appointment with a Faculty advisor, students should call the department directly. Please visit the schools and colleges webpage to learn where to contact your department.

Important note for MUSIC, THEATRE, and ATHLETIC TRAINING Majors: All transfer music, theatre, and athletic training students should meet with a Faculty advisor in their major department before meeting with an advisor in the AAC.

+-Steps to Advising and Registration

Complete the math placement test - only if necessary

All transfer students who did not complete a college level mathematics course (above intermediate algebra) prior to transfer will be required to complete the online math placement test.  You can check your status on your program evaluation through WebAdvisor.  If  you are required to take Math 98 or 99, and you do not enroll yourself in a course, you will be force-enrolled by the Office of the Chancellor.

Complete academic advising

Starting on June 3, 2013, students can call the Academic Advising Center at (714) 744-7959 to schedule an advising appointment with a professional advisor. Students must have paid their enrollment deposit and be in moved-to-student status before they can schedule an advising appointment. Online advising will be available starting June 3.

Determine your assigned registration date

You can view your assigned date and time by logging in to WebAdvisor. In the Students Menu under Registration, click on "registration eligibility."  Registration dates are randomly assigned, and cannot be changed.  You can register anytime on or after your assigned date.

Review your program evaluation and advisor notes and recommendations

You program evaluation is available through WebAdvisor.  If you have not met with an advisor, you can use the program evaluation guide to assist you.

Build your preferred list in WebAdvisor

Step by step instructions are available in the WebAdvisor tutorial.

Register for courses

All course registration is completed online through WebAdvisor, on or after your assigned registration date and time.

Turn in your transcripts

Do you have any outstanding final transcripts that need to be turned in? Be sure to request them to be sent to the Office of the University Registrar. Pending transfer credits may impact educational planning and may result in a miscalculation of the student's remaining credits and requirements.
