»New Transfer Students

Academic Advising for new transfer students is highly recommended.  Advisors can assist you in interpreting your program evaluation to determine which courses were transferred, and how they are being applied to your degree.

As a new transfer student to Chapman University, you have several options for completing academic advising. It is recommended that all students meet with both their program advisor in their major department and an academic advisor in the Academic Advising Center. +-Advising Options for New Transfer Students

Online Advising:

An online tutorial is available for those students who are out of the local area, or who are comfortable receiving important information in an electronic environment.  The tutorial will cover all of the same information as a one-on-one appointment with a professional advisor.  Follow-up phone appointments with an advisor are available for students who have additional questions after completing the tutorial and final AAC Survey. Please allow up to 24 hours for the processing of your tutorial completion. The tutorial is available on our New Students page (at the bottom of the page). You may call (714) 744-7959 to schedule a follow-up phone appointment.

Appointment with an Academic Advisor:

Students may schedule an individual appointment with a professional academic advisor.  Appointments are 1 hour in length, dedicated to reviewing the student's program evaluation.  Before an appointment can be scheduled, students are required to complete the AAC Online New Student tutorial (including the final AAC Survey). The tutorial is available on our New Students page. After completion of the tutorial, please allow 24 hours for processing. After the 24 hours has passed, students can call the Academic Advising Center at (714) 744-7959 to schedule an advising appointment.  Students must have completed the online tutorial, paid their enrollment deposit, and be in moved-to-student status before they can schedule an advising appointment. Please note: We have a 10-minute late policy for all transfer appointments. If you arrive more than 10 minutes after your scheduled appointment time, you will be required to reschedule.

Appointment with a Program Advisor:

After meeting with an AAC academic advisor, students are also recommended to schedule an appointment with a program advisor in their major department to discuss the specific requirements for the major, research or internship opportunities, or career goals.  Please note that faculty availability is limited during the summer.  To schedule an appointment with a program advisor, students should call or email the department directly. Please visit the Advising Portal for contact information.

+-GE FOR TRANSFER STUDENTS VIDEO

After completing our online tutorial, we highly recommend that all new transfers watch the following video to learn more about GE for Transfer Students. NOTE: Watching the below video does not allow students to make an appointment with an advisor. To make an appointment, students must watch and complete in full the Online New Student Tutorial found on our New Students page.

GE FOR TRANSFER STUDENTS

+-Steps to Advising and Registration

Complete the math placement test - only if necessary

All transfer students who did not complete a college level mathematics course (above intermediate algebra) prior to transfer will be required to complete the online math placement test.  You can check your status on your program evaluation through WebAdvisor.  If you are required to take Math 98 or 99, and you do not enroll yourself in a course, you will be force-enrolled by the Office of the Chancellor.

Complete academic advising

After completing our online tutorial and final survey (on our New Students page) students can call the Academic Advising Center at (714) 744-7959 to schedule an advising appointment with a professional advisor. Students must have completed the tutorial, paid their enrollment deposit, and be in moved-to-student status before they can schedule an advising appointment. Please allow 24 hours for processing of your tutorial completion. Appointments cannot be made prior to all items being completed.

Determine your assigned registration date

You can view your assigned date and time by logging in to WebAdvisor. In the Students Menu under Registration, click on "registration eligibility."  Registration dates are randomly assigned, and cannot be changed.  You can register anytime on or after your assigned date.

Turn in your transcripts

Do you have any outstanding final transcripts that need to be turned in? Be sure to request them to be sent to the Office of Admission. Pending transfer credits may impact educational planning and may result in a miscalculation of the student's remaining credits and requirements.

Review your program evaluation and advisor notes and recommendations

Your program evaluation is available online through WebAdvisor.  If you have not met with an advisor, you can use the program evaluation guide to assist you. A portion of the Academic Advising New Student Online Tutorial is dedicated to reviewing the Program Evaluation.

Build your preferred list in WebAdvisor

Step by step instructions are available in the WebAdvisor tutorial.

Register for courses

All course registration is completed online through WebAdvisor, on or after your assigned registration date and time.

    Did you complete GE Certification?

Although completion of the full certification is not necessarily an admission requirement for Chapman it does allow transfer students, who complete either the CSU or the IGETC prior to the start of classes at Chapman, to waive the majority of the Chapman General Education curriculum.
