»New Transfer Students

Academic Advising for new transfer students is highly recommended.  Advisors can review your program evaluation to determine which courses were transferred, and how they are being applied to your degree.

As a new transfer student to Chapman University, you have several options for completing academic advising. It is recommended that all students meet with both their program advisor in their major department and an academic advisor in the Academic Advising Center. +-Advising Options for New Transfer Students

Online Advising:

An online tutorial is available for those students who are out of the local area, or who are comfortable receiving important information in an electronic environment.  The tutorial will cover all of the same information as a one-on-one appointment with a professional advisor.  Follow-up phone appointments with an advisor are available for students who have additional questions after completing the tutorial and final AAC Survey. The tutorial is available on our New Students page (at the bottom of the page). You may call 714-744-7959 beginning December 6 to schedule a follow-up phone appointment.

Appointment with an Academic Advisor:

Students may schedule an individual appointment with a professional academic advisor.  Appointments are 30 minutes in length, dedicated to reviewing the student's program evaluation.  Students are required to complete the AAC Online New Student tutorial (including the final AAC Survey) before an appointment can be scheduled. The tutorial is available on our New Students page. After completing the tutorial, students can call the Academic Advising Center at (714) 744-7959 beginning on December 6 to schedule an advising appointment.  Students must have completed the online tutorial, paid their enrollment deposit, and be in moved-to-student status before they can schedule an advising appointment.

Appointment with a Program Advisor:

After meeting with an AAC academic advisor, students also have the option of scheduling an appointment with a program advisor in their major department to discuss the specific requirements for the major, research or internship opportunities, or career goals.  Please note that faculty availability is limited during the interterm.  To schedule an appointment with a program advisor, students should call the department directly. Please visit the Advising Portal for contact information.

+-Steps to Advising and Registration

Complete the math placement test - only if necessary

All transfer students who did not complete a college level mathematics course (above intermediate algebra) prior to transfer will be required to complete the online math placement test.  You can check your status on your program evaluation through WebAdvisor.  If  you are required to take Math 98 or 99, and you do not enroll yourself in a course, you will be force-enrolled by the Office of the Chancellor.

Complete academic advising

Starting December 6, after completing our online tutorial (on our New Students page) students can call the Academic Advising Center at (714) 744-7959 to schedule an advising appointment with a professional advisor. Students must have completed the tutorial, paid their enrollment deposit, and be in moved-to-student status before they can schedule an advising appointment.

Determine your assigned registration date

Around December 5, you can view your assigned date and time by logging in to WebAdvisor. In the Students Menu under Registration, click on "registration eligibility."  Registration dates are randomly assigned, and cannot be changed.  You can register anytime on or after your assigned date.

Review your program evaluation and advisor notes and recommendations

You program evaluation is available through WebAdvisor.  If you have not met with an advisor, you can use the program evaluation guide to assist you. A portion of the Academic Advising New Student Online Tutorial is dedicated to using the Program Evaluation.

Build your preferred list in WebAdvisor

Step by step instructions are available in the WebAdvisor tutorial.

Register for courses

All course registration is completed online through WebAdvisor, on or after your assigned registration date and time.

Turn in your transcripts

Do you have any outstanding final transcripts that need to be turned in? Be sure to request them to be sent to the Office of Admission. Pending transfer credits may impact educational planning and may result in a miscalculation of the student's remaining credits and requirements.

    Did you complete GE Certification?

Although completion of the full certification is not necessarily an admission requirement for Chapman it does allow transfer students, who complete either the CSU or the IGETC prior to the start of classes at Chapman, to waive the majority of the Chapman General Education curriculum.
