Director of Academic Advising
I came to Chapman in the summer of 2010 as the specialist advisor for Schmid College of Science. Prior to coming to Chapman, I served as the Coordinator of Academic Probation and Disqualification Services at Cal State Fullerton, where I was responsible for coordinating early intervention advising workshops for over 1000 first-time freshmen on academic probation as well as the advising and tracking of more than 1200 students disqualified annually. Prior to working at CSUF, I was the Assistant Director of the Student Access to Science Center at Cal State Long Beach. I am a strong student advocate and committed to facilitating student success. I believe that working with students is a privilege and an honor, and I look forward to working collaboratively with you as you pursue your academic, personal and professional goals at Chapman. In my spare time I enjoy kayaking at the beach, SCUBA diving, and hiking with friends.
Joe Barrett, M.A.
Specialist advisor for Dodge College of Film and Media Arts
I earned both my B.A. and M.A. in American Studies from Cal State Fullerton where I also worked as an academic advisor prior to joining Chapman University in late 2007. My primary duties at Chapman are to assist Dodge College students with meeting all of their requirements so that they may graduate in a timely manner. Outside of advising I am interested in US cultural history and the built environment and may one day pursue a Ph.D. in order to study these things further. For the time being, however, I find great pleasure in reading, writing, photography, cycling and drinking coffee.
Dina Bartoloni, M.S.
Specialist advisor for College of Performing Arts (Dance, Music, Theatre), Communication Studies, Strategic and Corporate Communication, Art, Art History, and Graphic Design majors
I came to Chapman University in February 2012. Born and raised in the city of Orange, I am very excited to be working here at Chapman! I earned my B.A. in History with a minor in English and American Literature from the University of Southern California. My studies focused more specifically on the power of film within early 20th century American History. After graduating from USC, I worked at UC Irvine as an Undergraduate Program Coordinator in the Department of Earth System Science. With a passion for assisting college students achieve academic success, I then moved to California State University, Fullerton, to work as a Academic Advisor in the Academic Advisement Center. During my tenure, I coordinated a variety of programs for CSUF students, including transfer advising services, probation advising, freshmen advising, and student evaluations. While at CSUF I earned my M.S. in Education with an emphasis in Higher Education and a Certificate in Community College Studies. Outside of work, I enjoy going to the theater (I love musicals!), watching movies, TV, and my favorite sports teams (go Angels!), traveling, reading, and taking care of my dog, Betty White (yes, that's her name).
Gabby Garcia, M.Ed.
Specialist advisor for Argyros School of Business and Economics majors
I have been at Chapman University since 2007 as an academic advisor for undergraduate students and the specialist advisor for business students. Born and raised in Los Angeles, I attended Cal State Long Beach and graduated with a B.A. in Communication Studies with a minor in Cross Cultural and Academic Development. During my undergraduate studies, I began to realize how much I enjoyed working with college students through a variety of programs and offices like EOP and the advising center, so I decided to continue my studies in higher education. I earned a Master's in Education with an emphasis in College Student Affairs from Azusa Pacific University. I live in the Los Angeles area and in my free time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. My biggest enjoyments include traveling, cheering on my favorite sports teams (Lakers and Dodgers, like every Angeleno!) and of course shopping!
Crystal De La Riva
Specialist advisor for the Wilkinson College of Humanities and Social Sciences majors (Creative Writing, English, French, History, Peace Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Religious Studies, Sociology, Spanish)
I am a Chapman panther through and through! In 2009, I earned my B.A. in Psychology here at Chapman and am currently in Chapman’s M.A. program for Marriage and Family Therapy. I have called Orange home since birth and wouldn't have it any other way, as I adore the city’s the old towne essence and vintage charm. Ever since I can remember I have always had a desire to help others. I began working at Chapman in 2011 and joined Academic Advising in 2013. I have two dogs, Yumi and Coco, who are cooler than Betty White (Dina’s dog). I love to laugh, play stylist to my colleagues, go to concerts, listen to vinyl records, and make others smile. When I’m not in my office or in the classroom, you can usually find me at Target.
Chanda Ishisaka, M.Ed.
Specialist advisor for the College of Education Studies and Undeclared majors
I joined the Academic Advising team in fall 2014. I lived in Seattle, Washington for six years to get my Master’s degree in Student Development Administration at Seattle University and then worked at South Seattle Community College as an Academic Advisor. I’m originally born and raised in the San Gabriel Valley area (626 area code) in Los Angeles County, and am happy to be back in sunny Southern California. I also have a connection to Orange County because I got my bachelor’s degree at the University of California, Irvine in Criminology, Law, and Society. I started at UC Irvine as an undeclared student, and was in the College of Education for graduate school, so I am very excited to be working with undeclared and the College of Educational Studies students. For fun, I enjoy trying group fitness classes like Zumba, traveling and exploring local events, and eating at different restaurants.
Irene Quinlan, M.A.

In the Spring of 2012, I joined the Academic Advising Center. Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, from which I recently relocated, I was an Academic Advisor at Texas A&M University, San Antonio. I also received my B.A. in Psychology from Texas A&M and recently completed my M.A. in Counseling. I enjoy working with students and look forward to meeting with each of you as we work together to meet your academic goals. When I'm not working or studying, I enjoy getting acquainted with California by exploring all my newly adopted state has to offer.
Carole Wayman, M.A.
Academic Advisor and Testing Administrator
Welcome! I am a native Californian and grew up in Los Angeles and Cerritos. I attended Cypress College, UC Irvine and the University of LaVerne earning a B.S. in Public Administration with an emphasis in Urban and Land Use Planning. I'm also a Chapman alumna with a masters degree in Organizational Leadership. I have a diverse employment background that includes 12 years in city government, 3 years working at Disney and 4 years working at Cal State Fullerton before coming to Chapman University in 2000. I've had the opportunity to work in interesting jobs such as an Assistant to the City Manager and City Council, Grants Coordinator, City Planner, Planning Commissioner, Occupational Trainer, Administrative Assistant (School of Education and Provost's Office), Testing Administrator, and Academic Advisor. I hope you will take this from my educational and employment background: the road to your career is not a straight path in which you earn a degree and land in the job of your dreams. I hope to help you navigate your academic requirements and learn more about yourself through the variety of your experiences while here at Chapman. I'm also a proud mom to two college young adults; my daughter just graduated from Mount St. Mary's College with a B.S. in Biology and my son is a U.S. Marine. An outdoors kind of person by nature, I enjoy outdoor activities such as gardening, walking, picnics and camping. I also enjoy traveling because it allows me to experience different cultures, meet new people and taste different foods.
