The Housing Application Process

resHall2The Online Housing Application

We strongly encourage all undergraduate students who are interested in applying for on-campus housing to complete and submit their housing application online. In order to access the online housing application, all students must have their Chapman University username and password which should be included with the student’s acceptance information packet. If a student’s user name and password is not included in their acceptance information packet, the student should contact the Chapman’s Computer Help Desk at 714.997.6600. Please note that the user name and password will only be given to the student directly. Please click here to access the online housing application. If for any reason you are unable to access the online housing application, a PDF version of our housing application is also available on our Undergraduate Forms page.

After you enter your user ID and password, you should be able to access the online housing application. The first page contains Living Preference questions that will be used to match each student with a roommate or with roommates. So that we are able to match you with a compatible roommate(s) based on your living preferences (as much as possible), please honestly answer each question. Once you complete this page, click the “CONTINUE” button at the bottom of the page to go to the second page of the housing application.  The second page of the housing application will include questions on Preferred Roommates, Residence Hall Preferences, Special Housing Accommodations and Themed Housing Communities. After answering the questions on this page, please click the “SUBMIT” button at the bottom of the page to complete the housing application process.

Security/Holding Housing Deposit

In addition to a Housing Application, a non-refundable $600 Security/Holding Housing Deposit is required to live on campus. The $600 Security/Holding Housing Deposit must be submitted with Housing Application Confirmation Letter before a housing application can be processed for a housing application.

Housing Deposit payments should be sent in the form of a check or money order to the Cashier’s Office at the following address:

Cashier’s Office
Chapman University
One University Drive
Orange, CA 92866

Credit Card payments may also be accepted by calling the Cashier’s Office at 714.997.6616.

Housing Application Timeline

Housing Applications are received and processed throughout the year. However, the majority of housing applications are received between January and May of each year for the proceeding fall semester and between October and December for the proceeding interterm and spring semester.

Housing for 2008-2009 Academic Year

NEW UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS:

New students who wish to obtain housing for the new 2008-2009 academic year and will be given first priority must submit their housing application and $600 Security Holding Housing Deposit by the May 1, 2008 priority deadline. Please realize that any housing application (with a $600 housing deposit) received by the priority deadline will be given the same priority.  In other words, if you submit your housing application and deposit in January, you will not have priority over applicants who submit their housing application and housing deposit in April).

Students who submit their housing application and housing deposit by the priority deadline will be e-mailed their housing assignment letter to their Chapman e-mail address by mid-July.  A Housing Information Packet will be mailed shortly after to the students permanent mailing address, which also includes other important information as students prepare to move onto campus.  As a reminder, all new students (freshmen and transfers) should expect to be placed in a triple room for at least their first year at Chapman.

We will do our best to accommodate all students and their requests; however, we cannot guarantee that all requests will be granted. For instance, not all students who request Glass Hall will actually be assigned to that hall as demand far exceeds available spaces. Therefore, all students must rank ALL residence halls in order of preference on their housing application.

For more detailed information on triple assignments as well as how housing assignments are determined, please see Housing Assignments page.

When you are assigned to on-campus housing, a Housing Assignment Information Packet will be mailed to you. This information packet will include an assignment letter listing your hall, room number, and the name and contact information of your roommate(s); a move-in informational brochure, correspondence regarding student mail services and other information to assist you with your move to the residence community.

Those who apply after the May 1, 2008 priority deadline will be assigned on a space-available basis only. If you apply after the priority deadline, it will take a minimum of one month before you receive your housing assignment (if housing is still available). If space is not available, students will be placed on a waiting list according to the order in which the application was received and the students permanent address. Students on the waiting list will be placed in housing as space is made available.

CONTINUING/RETURNING UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS:

Continuing or Returning students who are currently enrolled at Chapman University who wish to obtain on-campus housing for the 2008-2009 academic year should participate in the Housing Selection Process. The Housing Selection application process for continuing/returning students to participate in Housing Selection will begin in late February. Additional information regarding Housing Selection 2008 will be available near the start of spring 2008 semester.
