» Pre-Award Administration

The Sponsored Projects Services (SPS) Research Administrators are the institutional officials that submit faculty-initiated applications/proposals to external sponsors on behalf of Chapman University.  As pre-award administrators, the SPS Research Administrators assist faculty and college/department grant support staff with:

  • Identifying funding opportunities
  • Providing expert guidance related to sponsor guidelines and submission processes
  • Creating proposal development checklists and timelines
    • Request a planning meeting with your Research Administrator to prepare for a smooth application process!
  • Developing proposal budgets
  • Performing final review of completed applications before submission to ensure compliance with sponsor expectations
    • Proposals are also reviewed to ensure compliance with federal, state, location and university policies prior to submission.

In addition to providing application/proposal support, SPS Research Administrators facilitate award receipt, negotiation and acceptance.  They are also responsible for all non-financial post-award activities such as No Cost Extensions, PI Changes, Progress Reports, and grant transfers, and serve as the main point of contact for university communications with external sponsors.  Once an award has been accepted and generated in the university financial system, the SPS Contracts & Grants Administrators are tasked with financial oversight and reporting on behalf of the university (Post-Award Administration).
