Dear Chapman Friends:
I love my job! I joined the Chapman faculty 35 years ago in 1974 and was elected the 12th president of our university in 1991. Though my roots are firmly planted at Chapman, much like this institution, I've never stopped moving forward. Later in my career, I discovered a passion for climbing mountains and running marathons. This is something that as a budding young academic in Chicago, I hadn't even considered. An important lesson I've learned as a climber is that real joy does not come from reaching the summit. Rather, its about a group of people coming together as a team to work toward a shared goal. It's about the encouragement we give one another to pursue greater challenges. And the friends we make for life. And that's the perfect way to describe what we call the Chapman student experience. Chapman is a dynamic place. One that is enlightening, innovative, welcoming and involving. Like me, I hope you'll find your true calling here.
