William R. Black is an adjunct professor who began teaching at the Dale E. Fowler School of Law in 2012. He presently teaches a practical skills course in In-House Corporate Practice as part of the Business Law Emphasis Program curriculum. He has spent over 20 years as General Counsel of several multinational public companies in the United States, Europe, Latin America and Asia, as well as over 10 years as an executive manager in the financial services and consulting industries. He is a member of the Mu Kappa Tau honorary fraternity, received the "President's Scholar" full law school scholarship and three American Jurisprudence Awards, and served as Managing Editor of the Western State University Law Review.
Mr. Black has served as Senior Division Counsel for a $5.0 billion division of BAE Systems Plc., an £18 billion publicly traded multinational Defense, Aerospace and Electronics Company based in London, UK; General Counsel for Lantronix, Inc., a $50 million Technology Company based in the United States; General Counsel for the North American operations of Thales, SA, a €12 billion multinational Aerospace-Defense-Electronics company headquartered in Paris, France; General Counsel for The L.L. Knickerbocker Co., Inc., a $100 million Consumer Products Company based in the United States; and General Counsel for the North American operations of AMCOR, Ltd., an $11 billion multinational Industrial Products Company based in Victoria, Australia. Mr. Black also served as Director General (CEO) of AMCOR de Mexico, S.A. de C.V., a $100 million Mexican corporation in the Industrial Packaging Products Industry; Senior Vice President in the business valuation and consulting divisions of Geneva Corporation, a leading U.S. Investment Banking Firm; Chief of Analysis for Management Resource Services Company, an international Consulting Firm serving Fortune 1000 clients; and Deere & Company, an international Construction and Agricultural Equipment Manufacturing Company, where he performed corporate development duties in the Western U.S. and Pacific Rim and ran an industrial, equipment distributor in the Hawaiian Islands and Pacific Trust Territories.
Mr. Black is admitted to practice before the US Supreme Court, the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the US Court of International Trade, and the California state and federal courts. He is a registered Solicitor in England and Wales. He serves on the US State Department Subcommittee on Economic Sanctions, and is the Chair of the American Bar Association International Business Law Division, Corporate Counsel Committee, Aerospace & Defense Industries Committee and National Security Committee. Mr. Black has a Language Proficiency Certification in Spanish and holds the rank of Third Degree Black Belt (Sandan) in Karate, Judo, Win Sun Kung Fu and C’han Fa Kempo
