Clark Higgins is a widely recognized and respected transformational leader, advisor and educator with a twenty-seven year track record as the President/CEO of highly successful middle market companies.
Clark is currently Professor of Marketing at the George L. Argyros School of Business and Economics at Chapman University where he received an outstanding professor award in recognition of his energized teaching methods backed up with extensive real world experience. In addition he is the Managing Partner of Falcon Leadership Group, an advisory firm that works with CEO’s and their management teams to address operations and marketing issues. Clark is also a Senior Advisor at Marwit Capital, a Newport Beach based private equity firm with $188 million of committed investment capital.
Prior to the sale of Jonathan Engineered Solutions (JES) to a Chicago based private equity firm, Clark served as President and Chief Executive Officer of this custom engineering/custom manufacturing company with revenues of $49 million and an EBITDA of $16.2 million! Based in Irvine, California Jonathan is recognized for its ability to develop innovative, proprietary solutions to complex linear movement and access challenges for the Military, Aerospace, Server Technology and various Industrial Markets. Since taking over the reins in 1997 and until he stepped down in March 2008, the company’s market value under Clark stewardship increased at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) in excess of 20 percent! Bottom line profits (EBITDA) were increased by an 18% compounded rate and the company’s EBITDA margin of 32% is double that of their market competitors. This exceptional financial performance combined with JES’s unique, differentiated business strategy enabled Clark and his team to successfully sell Jonathan in 2004 for $60 million and again in 2007 for $120 million.
Before joining Jonathan, Higgins served as President/CEO of VSI Fasteners, a hardware distribution and service company from 1992 to 1997 and President/CEO of Corona Clipper Company and National Greenhouse Company from 1981 to 1992. Clark’s team at Corona was successful in implementing a strategic plan, which transformed this company from a regional supplier of professional tools to a nationally recognized consumer brand name. This performance enabled the company to cash out the original investors in less then five years after his arrival.
Clark’s professional career began as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Air Force after he earned his B.S. degree in Engineering from the United States Air Force Academy and his MBA in Operations Management from the Anderson School of Business at UCLA. At the Space and Missile Systems Organization based in El Segundo, California, he was responsible for the finances of the Air Force’s largest unmanned satellite system. While in this position, he received the Air Force’s “Top Individual Cost Reduction Award” for documented one-year savings in excess of $22 million.
