The School of Law is proud to host a number of important and stimulating lectures throughout the academic year, ranging from informal patio discussions to distinguished guest lectures. Below are the categories of lecture series offered, with links to a schedule of speakers and topics. (Note that some lecture series may not be repeated in subsequent years. Prior schedules are provided for informational purposes.)
“The Chapman Dialogues” Distinguished Lecture Series This distinguished lecture series includes some of the most innovative and thought-provoking scholars in the legal academy and the social sciences. Visiting speakers are invited to present their research and ideas to the widest audience of Chapman law faculty and students. A discussion will follow and will typically be led by one or two discussants from among the Chapman faculty. The Dialogues are sponsored by a number of influential local law firms and corporations. The Education Law Colloquia Series (Spring 2007) Directed by Betsy Levin during her visit as the 2007 Fletcher Jones Distinguished Visiting Professor of Law, this informative lecture series focused on important and topical issues in education law. Dean Levin is an expert in education law and constitutional law, and has authored numerous books including a leading casebook on education law.
2007-08 Education Law Colloquia Series Schedule
The Chapman Law Faculty Workshop Series Originally known as the Blank Lectures, the series has developed into a workshop series that permits Chapman law faculty to present their research and scholarship to colleagues. The workshops reflect the great ideological diversity of Chapman faculty and the Chapman ethic that encourages disagreement without being disagreeable. The environment, which is both challenging and constructive, helps to elevate the strength and quality of Chapman scholarship. Patio Discussion Lecture Series Each discussion is conducted by a member of the Chapman law faculty, held on the back patio of the Donald P. Kennedy Hall, accessible to students, faculty and the public in an informal setting. After a brief introduction to the topic, there is an open forum for discussion.
