Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas Returns to Chapman to Discuss New Memoir

Clarence Thomas, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, returned to Chapman University School of Law on December 17, 2007, to speak about and sign copies of his new memoir, My Grandfather’s Son. Chapman was the final stop and the only university in the nation that Justice Thomas visited on his brief book tour, which otherwise included appearances before downtown audiences in major cities.

After meeting with local and statewide leaders from legal and judicial communities, including his former Supreme Court clerk and current School of Law Dean, John Eastman, Justice Thomas delivered his lecture to a capacity crowd in Memorial Hall. Demand was so high for this event that hundreds of additional guests watched the presentation from overflow rooms in Beckman Hall. After concluding with a brief Q & A session, Justice Thomas graciously spent more than two hours greeting guests and signing copies of his book.

Justice Thomas previously visited the Chapman campus in 1999 to participate in the opening of Donald P. Kennedy Hall, home of the Chapman University School of Law.  The most recent visit was presented by the Heritage Foundation in conjunction with the Federalist Society and Chapman University.
