Chapman University is excited to present an opportunity to enhance the living/learning environment for students in Dodge College of Film and Media Arts and lay the foundation for a new era of excellence in digital media: the Studio for Animation, F/X and the Digital Arts will be one of the first components of Chapman’s most exciting new venture: Chapman Studios.

    Leadership with Vision and Experience

    Headed by Oscar-nominated animation director and computer graphics pioneer Bill Kroyer, the faculty and staff of the Digital Arts program at Dodge College offer the most comprehensive and complete education for animation, visual effects, and digital design you’ll find anywhere. In fact, the Digital Arts faculty has over one hundred years combined experience in the animation, visual effects, and gaming industries.

    The building will feature collaborative, multipurpose spaces designed to encourage and facilitate creativity.

    • Studio Spaces: including a Directing Studio and Digital Arts suites with Help Desk and Laptop ‘Bar’ Area
      • Large, multipurpose studio spaces providing students with industry standard, state-of-the-art tools and equipment.
    • Student Creative Commons: critical to the creative genius
      • Following in the footsteps of the most innovative companies in the world today – Pixar, Google, Apple, Disney – the Student Creative Commons will provide meeting space for clubs and groups, as well as offering students a space for breaks and relaxation, inviting artists and innovators to relax together and bounce ideas off each other.
      • A “grab ‘n go” café will provide students access to quick meals or snacks.
    • Screening Room
      • 1,500-square-foot multi-purpose screening room with 3D projection, retractable Skyfold® wall, leather bench seating, and state-of-the-art sound system.
    • Art Studio
      • A studio space for life drawing, with art benches and easels.
    • Additional Spaces Include:
      • Digital Arts Computer Teaching Lab 
        • State-of-the-art software and hardware designed for animation, visual effects, and digital compositing and illustration.
        • Available 24/7 for student access, this teaching lab/classroom will enable students to create animated films, design title sequences, or create otherworldly environments, even in 3D.
      • 2D Design and Flex Classrooms – featuring a variety of seating arrangements.
      • Conference Room – facilitating further collaboration among faculty and staff.
      • Offices – adding much needed office space for faculty.
      • Outdoor Patio Area - with tables and chairs.
