+ - Overview
All applicants to Dodge College of Film and Media Arts are required to submit a Portfolio via SlideRoom as part of the Common Application. There is a $10 fee for the process, paid online when you submit your materials.
In the event you have submitted your Common Application and did not indicate you intend to submit a Portfolio please use the link provided to begin your Portfolio.
The following items must be submitted through SlideRoom to be considered for admission to the Film Studies program:
- Dodge College Prompt
- Major Requirement Essay
- Creative Resume
- Department Letter of Recommendation
On the Common Application, make sure to select “yes” to the question “Do you intend to submit a Portfolio?”. This will prompt a tab to appear on the left-hand side of the application that will connect you to SlideRoom. You must have a Common App ID to connect with SlideRoom.
Once you have registered to start a submission via SlideRoom, you may step away and come back at any time, until the final deadline. Please make sure that you save your progress after each visit, and do not click to submit until you are 100% sure that you have properly uploaded the required components outlined below. Once you click submit, you may no longer edit your uploaded documents. Do NOT wait until the last minute to register on SlideRoom. And do NOT wait until the last minute to submit your materials, in the event any technical issues arise. If you have any issues, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Common Application and SlideRoom materials must be submitted by the appropriate deadline or your application will be considered late.
+ - Portfolio Requirements for 2016
Please note that you may only submit Portfolio materials into SlideRoom for your 1st Choice Major selected on Common App. No other materials will be reviewed as part of the application process.

In 300 words or less, please explain why you want to pursue a degree in Film Studies including how the program would contribute to your personal growth and future career?
Major Requirement Essay
Prompt: In no more than two (2) pages, write a analysis of a film produced in 2015 that strongly resonated with you. Focus on the film's execution and delivery of themes or messages, particularly how specific uses of the cinematic aesthetic (such as cinematography, editing, and sound) contributed to the overall impact.
Format: Essays should be typed, single-spaced, 12 pt. Times New Roman font, one-inch margins on all sides. Remember to title your essay.
Provide a one-page (max.) resume highlighting 5-7 pieces of what you consider to be your best creative work. These projects should demonstrate your ability to convey a story or message through creative, artistic or technical talents. As we are only asking for a limited number of projects, include more recent items and projects in which you were the driving force or had a leadership role. These can include class assignments, projects from jobs or internships, or your personal hobbies and freelance work. Please note you are NOT to submit any actual materials from this resume at this time. Please use the following format when structuring your resume:
- Title: title of the project (length of project if applicable)
- Source and Date of Creation: You may write “freelance” if it was something you did on your own.
- Description of item: An in-depth description of the piece, the inspiration or objective, and your specific role in its creation. Also list any awards or special recognition you may have received for the piece.
Articles for the School Newspaper
Journalism I class, 2008
I wrote several feature articles on various topics from the constant flooding of the men’s bathroom to vandalism on campus. I also did a film review for every issue. I helped with the layout of the paper as well as selecting the final photographs.
Letter of Recommendation:
This letter of recommendation should be completed by a person who can discuss your creative strengths. Examples of appropriate people to write this letter on your behalf are art, drama, film/TV, or journalism teachers or a boss or supervisor from a job, internship, or volunteer project where your duties included something of a creative nature. This Recommendation must be requested and submitted through SlideRoom with the rest of your Portfolio materials. DO NOT submit this recommendation through the Common Application.
You can check within your SlideRoom account to see if you recommender has sent in a letter of recommendation. We recommend that you check back frequently to make sure the letter has been submitted. This letter is due by the same deadline as your application materials, so make sure to give your recommender plenty of time to complete the letter.

All documents must be uploaded to The Common Application and SlideRoom by the given deadlines. Late applications are only reviewed on a space available basis. Undergraduate deadlines (including international students) are as follows:
