Harold W. Hewitt, Jr., has focused on identifying and resolving financial planning and management issues as well as provided strategic leadership at several Southern California non-profit institutions, primarily in the discipline of higher education. He served Whittier College as its vice president for business and finance from 1989 to 1996, Occidental College as its vice president for administration and finance and chief financial officer from 1996 to 2006, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association as its vice president and chief financial officer from 2006 to 2007, and Chapman University as its executive vice president and chief operating officer since October, 2007.
Harold continues to volunteer his personal time serving higher education through his involvement in multiple professional associations. Harold has made various presentations during national and regional professional meetings, served on professional association committees and on various accreditation teams, organized two past Pacific Consortium of West Coast Small College Business Officers (PAC-CON) annual meetings and organized one international academic conference. During 2009 and 2010, he served as a Commissioner for the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) as well as the chair of the Financial Issues Task Force, a sub-committee of the WASC Handbook Revision Steering Committee; co-chair of WASC’s Substantive Change Committee; vice-chair of the WASC Finance and Operations Committee; co-convener for the PAC-CON 2009 Conference; a member of the NACUBO Tuition Discounting Survey Advisory Board; and chairman of the Western Association of College and University Business Officers (WACUBO) 2010 Host Committee. He will continue to serve as a WASC Commissioner through 2012.
