Will an accompanist be provided for the audition?
Yes. Instrumentalists – When you select your instrument, an option will be available for you to indicate if you will need an accompanist or not.
Vocalists – An accompanist will be provided for all vocal auditions. Please bring sheet music (in the correct key) for the accompanist.
Can I schedule practice time with an accompanist before my audition?
No. Accompanists are typically not provided for rehearsal before auditions however practice rooms will be available for your use on each audition day. All of our accompanists are professional collaborative artists and will be capable of sight-reading your music.
How to cancel/revise an audition appointment?
Please visit the Change Audition Appointment page. You will need to login with the email address that you used to setup your original audition appointment.
Is an audition required for multiple degrees/majors (theatre, music, etc.)?
Yes. You will need to sign up for a separate audition for each major you are applying to.
Are there practice rooms available?
Yes. On conservatory audition days, practice rooms will be left unlocked and available for warm-up, practice, etc. Practice rooms are available on a first-come, first-served based, and you will be directed to the practice rooms upon check-in.
Should the audition material be memorized?
Vocalists - Yes.
Instrumentalists – Depends. You may wish to check with the Director of Instrumental Studies to verify prior to your audition.
What is “Early Action”?
For information on early action, please visit the Office of Undergraduate Admission. To be considered for early action, you must audition by November 1st.
How do I upload audition portfolio/materials?

What is a “studio teacher assignment audition”?
Students who are accepted into the conservatory will perform an audition at the beginning of the school year to determine which private studio they will be placed in.
Can I schedule lessons with a studio teacher before the audition?
Yes. We encourage prospective students to come to campus and enjoy a free ½ hour private lesson with one of our instructors. In addition, there are classes and rehearsals that you may “shadow” for the day.
When are students notified of the audition outcome?
You will receive notification of acceptance to the William D. Hall and Marybelle and Sebastian P. Musco Conservatory of Music in your admissions packet from Chapman University.
What are the fees to apply?
There is no fee to audition for the William D. Hall and Marybelle and Sebastian P. Musco Conservatory of Music. There is an application fee associated with applying to Chapman University. Please visit the Office of Undergraduate Admission for more information.
What should I bring to the audition?
You are encouraged to only bring what you require for your performance (i.e. your instrument(s), music for the accompanist, etc.) All other application materials should be submitted directly to the Office of Undergraduate Admission.
Is an SAT required to audition?
SAT scores are required for the Chapman University application.
What is the dress code for the audition?
Prospective students are encouraged to dress professionally for any/all auditions.
Are there talent awards for non-majors?
No. At this time, music scholarships are awarded to music majors only. You will be considered for a scholarship during your audition and there is no need to submit any additional paperwork.
Can I minor in Music? If so, how?
Yes. You can minor in music however minors can only be declared once enrolled as a student. When you begin classes at Chapman University, please consult the Hall-Musco Conservatory web pages for additional information on adding a minor in music.
