+ - Pacific and Asian Affairs Council

Pacific and Asian Affairs Council's (PAAC) mission is to promote a greater awareness and understanding of foreign affairs issues with special attention to Hawaii’s role in the Asia-Pacific region. PAAC sponsors a number of programs for high school students, including after school clubs in Hawaii’s public and private schools, after-school Internet friendly classes that teach global studies, global education curricula, classroom speakers, service projects, international negotiation simulations and annual statewide conferences.

+ - World Affairs Council of Charlotte

World Affairs Council of Charlotte (WACC) has created an Education Task Force in an effort to give educators in the Charlotte, North Carolina area an opportunity to voice their needs and suggestions about how the council and its partners can better assist local schools in their efforts to globalize their programs. New program ideas include creating a database of resources for teachers, and having teacher exchange workshops wherein teachers participate by bringing lesson plans to share. Another WACC activity is the annual foreign language luncheon wherein students from local high schools who have outstanding language skills can come together to share and learn from invited speakers. The council and its partners also give a number of scholarships to educators involved in global education activities. In addition, a variety of workshops and a speaker series are sponsored for area teachers.

+ - World Affairs Council of New Hampshire

World Affairs Council of New Hampshire (WACNH) employs a School Program Director who is responsible for carrying out a number of global education initiatives in the State. These include such things as:
1. Implementing the Great Decisions program of the Foreign Policy Association through the sponsorship of a day-long forum and monthly luncheons for interested teachers
2. Sponsoring evening lectures with a speaker addressing a timely topic of international concern
3. Conducting four statewide teleconference sessions for students featuring experienced diplomats
4. Holding two day-long conferences for teachers featuring distinguished speakers from academe and government
5. Organizing week-long summer teacher workshops on contemporary global issues

+ - World Affairs Council of Philadelphia

The World Affairs Council of Philadelphia plays a pivotal role in education in its region of the country. For a half-century, the council has sponsored a nationally-acclaimed world affairs education program which has become a staple of the curriculum of school districts in southeastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and northern Delaware. Each school year, 30,000 students and teachers from more than 250 elementary and secondary schools make use of extensive resource materials, guest speakers, conferences, lecture series, simulation programs and field trips provided by the council.

+ - World Affairs Council of Seattle Global Classrooms Program

The Global Classrooms program connects teachers and students with international resources, ideas and people. It sponsors an annual World Educator Award for teachers and World Citizen Essay Contest for K-12 students. In addition, it makes curriculum materials and professional development workshops and training available to teachers in the region, and sponsors a classroom Speaker’s Bureau for interested teachers and schools. The World Affairs Councils described in this section are ones that responded to our global education questionnaire. There are many other councils that offer different levels of support to local schools, teachers and students. Educators can access this central website to find the council serving their own area. These various councils run school programs in conjunction with their local, regional, or statewide school systems. Services include curriculum resources, Model UN programs and other simulations for students, teacher professional development, study abroad programs, career seminars and more. The national office offers programs for local councils.
